Tips To Take Care Of Your Coloured Hair
:

Know that colour is different for everyone. Just because you and your best friend use the same shade doesn’t mean you’ll have the same hair colour result. Colour develops a bit differently on every person, so consider hair condition, starting colour and how much processing has gone on.

Choose a colour that suits your skin tone. For instance, if your colouring is cool (fair, rosy skin with blue, green or grey eyes) go for ashy blondes and mahogany brunettes, and avoid warm or golden hair colours.

It’s much easier to “fix” a lighter shade if you are not happy with the result. Most box colours turn out darker than you think, so unless you’re certain, choose a shade that looks a bit lighter than you’d like the final result.

If colouring on a whim or just trying something new, go with a non-permanent colour. This type of hair colour will wash out faster (from up to 8 to up to 24 shampoos dependent on the product to use). So, if you don’t like it, it’ll wash out sooner. Plus, the results you achieve are usually closer to your natural hair colour, which keeps you from making too drastic a change.

Don’t go for a dramatic change—stay within one to three shades of your current or natural colour. For instance, if your hair is dark and you want to be platinum blonde, leave it to the professionals and visit your hair salon.

Coarse hair (large in diameter) generally takes more time to absorb colour, so it requires longer processing time. Fine hair (small in diameter) generally takes less time to absorb colour so it requires a shorter processing time.

If you are planning to colour your hair today, make sure you don’t shampoo for at least two days in prior. This helps to let the natural oils secreted from scalp set in. This is simply done to protect our hair roots from severe colour damage. You may say it controls the damage intensity.

If possible, then always go to a salon or a get a stylist to colour your hair as they know the best techniques to do so. Professional help is always better rather than doing it at home alone.

One of the drawbacks of hair colouring is the mess it creates. To avoid mess all over your back (while hair colouring at home), cover your back from shoulders with an old towel/cloth/old full necked t-shirt. No one would want to be left with coloured back, temples and hands. So apply using a brush and always wear hand gloves.

Use hair care products specifically designed for coloured hair – the brand, Pantene Pro V, has a great range of shampoos and conditioners for colour-treated hair. Also try hair treatments that help keep your colour looking great between colourings such as nice’n easy ColourSeal Gloss, which should be used once a week.

A good conditioner is very important to maintain the moisture balance in your hair. Since your hair has been treated with chemicals like ammonia, therefore always use a “colour protecting conditioner”. This will nourish it and provide its natural shine and lustre.

Go back to the old and famous condition method of using hot oils. Use olive oil, almond oil or coconut oil to deep condition your hair.

For your colour to last longer, always use leave in conditioners after washing your hair. If possible, wear a hat or a hair sunblock spray while going out in the sun. This helps to protect hair from getting damaged by sun and depleting the colour away.

Avoid the use of blow dryer and let your hair dry naturally. If you have to use, then switch to cool setting to dry your hair.

Chlorine is very harmful for coloured hair. It can alter the actual colour of your hair. So avoid setting into the pool just after colouring your hair. And if you do, always wear a swimming cap before you step in.

If you need touch ups, do it every 4 weeks. For a near-perfect touch up, always use the colour mixture and apply it using a cotton ball dipped in colour mixture or use a brush. Follow the same rinsing process with cold water as before to avoid damage.
